To be kind should not just be an act but a vocation. It’s a calling that everyone should answer to if we want this world to be a better place for everyone to live in.

That being said, we can’t ignore the fact that often times than not, we get hurt from our kind gestures. This happens especially when our kind acts are unappreciated, ignored, betrayed, or even misinterpreted. The pain can sometimes lead us to hitting the brakes on being kind or switching off the engine of kindness completely.

For many who have found themselves in instances where their kindness has caused them hurt or pain, I encourage you not to be deterred by one or many bad experiences for the sake of that one person out there whose growth, help, destiny or salvation might have been placed in your hand by fate. For the sake of one righteous and deserving man, do not shut the doors of your kind heart.

But then again, who are we to decide who is deserving or who is not deserving of our kindness? One way or another, we have received things or help, that deep down in our hearts, we felt we were undeserving of, yet we accepted them. Who then are we to draw the line? Who are we to create the yardstick of who is deserving of kindness?

Each act of kindness should spring from the heart and not from the head. The heart acts without needing any gratification or acknowledgement; it does whatever it does without knowing whether it was appreciated or not.

The heart only feels contentment in doing whatever it feels is right and that contentment is a great feeling. But the head on the other hand thinks through it all, the act, the recipient, his/her reaction and your own benefits. The heart is the home of love. Kindness should be done out of sincere love. An act of kindness not borne of love is only a show off.

Finally, I do not say that we should not apply wisdom in kindness but be kind whenever you can and when it’s really needed by someone. Do not let negative experiences stop you from being kind. Whenever your head starts to question your heart each time you’re about to do good, try to remember instances where you were undeserving of the kindness you received.
The air we breathe is God’s kindness towards us. It’s not that we really deserve the air, but because He loves us unconditionally. Remember that always and show kindness to people out of love.

Cheers!
